Open Graph

What's all this business with Open Graph

The Open Graph protocol enables you to integrate your pages into the social graph. These pages gain the functionality of other graph objects including profile links and stream updates for connected users.

Ok, that's nice.  Tell me exactly what it means for me as a website owner or blog owner and why is it important for SEO.

Basically any website can implement the Open Graph protocol. It allows any web page to become a rich object in any social graph, making it easy to find what people are liking across the Web -- from a movie to a blog.
OK now you're starting to make sense.  Why is it important to do?As your app or in this case your website or website page becomes an important part of how users express themselves, these actions are more prominently displayed throughout timeline, news feed, and ticker, in the case of Facebook. This enables your app or website or webpage to become a key part of the Facebook experience for the user and their friends.

How do I implement it?

To start integrating the Open Graph protocol into your Web pages check out the blog on Yoast.
